Apple's Looming Lion: Mac OS 10.7's Availability Means More Systems Will Be Dying
I'm fairly excited about the enhancements coming next month in Mac OS 10.7 'Lion' O/S, and I'm especially intrigued by the low upgrade price point. However, I'm not at all enthused about the degree to which it and its operating system predecessors have regularly and predictably obsoleted my Apple hardware suite. For more, head to Brian's Brian, The Techsplainer, or The Techsplorer.

Living Room Gaming On ARM: For Microsoft, Will The Third Time Be The Charm?
From my last post's handheld gaming focus, attention now turns to living room-based entertainment. I take a look at the notable (and not) features of Nintendo's upcoming Wii U console, and take a stab at what Microsoft and Sony's next-generation competition might look like. For all the details, head to Brian's Brian, The Techsplainer, or The Techsplorer.

Sony's PlayStation Vita: Who's Behind The CPU Incognita?
What are the CPU and GPU specifications of Sony's latest PlayStation Portable variant, the Vita? And what do they tell us (or not) about who likely did the original SoC design? Check out my latest blog post, mirrored at Brian's Brian, The Techsplainer, and The Techsplorer.

And So It Begins...
Abundant thanks go out to John Donovan, a long-time professional associate and personal friend, who enthusiastically recruited me to join the staff at Low-Power Design as soon as he heard that I'd left EDN. I'll be periodically contributing material to the What's On Brian's Mind blog, along with crafting more in-depth feature articles. Just-published initial content includes my bio, along with my first Low-Power Design blog post, 'Cultivating The Budding Low-Power Flower'.
Enjoy! Feedback is always welcomed.

main( ) { printf(“hello, world”); }
Greetings, and welcome to the new home of soon-to-be-former EDN Magazine Senior Technical Editor Brian Dipert. My soon-to-be-former employers at EDN Magazine were gracious enough to allow me to retain editorial ownership of the Brian's Brain blog, which going forward you can find here. I've also got another blog, The Techsplorer, which you can find here in currently-placeholder fashion and which I think I'll be devoting to system-level product evals and other topics, versus system building block-level discussions at Brian's Brain. Editorial direction is, of course, subject to change. To wit, I've also reserved The Techsplainer, with which I confess that I’m not entirely sure yet what I’m going to do...
As you can see, nothing’s unpacked yet at the new ‘digs’; I admittedly have a steep learning curve ahead of me with respect to learning Blogger (and WordPress), not to mention now-arcane terms such as ‘SEO‘, ‘Google AdWords’, ‘meta data’ and the like. The ride may be a bit bumpy at times, but I’ll do my best to make it fun. I hope you’ll stick around and join me on the journey.
p.s…in case the subject line is too obscure…
